East Bay Public Plaza

A Water-Themed Public Space

The public plaza is generally open 10 am to 8 pm. Hours of operation vary seasonally. This unique urban open space is owned and operated by LOTT. 

The plaza features a demonstration wetland, a variety of artwork, interpretive elements, benches and restrooms. It is also home to Washington State’s first and only interactive wading stream, fed by Class A reclaimed water that is approved for recreational use. The stream is open seasonally. The plaza is located in downtown Olympia, on Olympia Avenue NE between Marine Drive and Jefferson Street. Parking is available at the on-street metered parking along Olympia Avenue and Jefferson Street.

Wading Stream

This stream is fed by Class A reclaimed water, perfect for dipping your toes and splashing around! It is designed to mimic a natural stream, beginning at a waterfall and “ending” by disappearing near East Bay’s marine water. (Actually, the stream is disinfected and recirculates to the waterfall to flow again.) It is fed partly by engineered “seeps and springs,” mimicking the way groundwater feeds many local streams. Wade the stream and see how many seeps and springs you can find!

Plan Your Visit

To plan a fun and safe visit, remember:

  • The stream is for wading only.
  • Children must be supervised.
  • Diapers worn in the stream must be swim diapers or have protective covering.
  • Pets need to be in full control by their owners, which includes being leashed and kept out of the stream
  • Keep food and beverages at least 10 feet from the stream.

Community Partnership​

The East Bay Public Plaza serves as the heart of the East Bay district near downtown Olympia. The plaza was designed and built as a result of a working partnership between the City of Olympia, LOTT, Hands On Children’s Museum and the Port of Olympia to provide public benefits and revitalize the East Bay area.
